Hen House Cottage is attached to the house that belonged to six generations of the village stonemason, and was converted from outbuildings and workshops in 2002. Although traditionally stone-built with raftered ceilings, it is a modern conversion and is warm and cosy.
Hen House Cottage has oil fired central heating with your own controls, and a wood burning stove, with all necessary materials including a plentiful supply of wood.
The cottage is thoughtfully laid out, beautifully furnished and decorated in a mix of modern and traditional colours and textiles, with original artworks by local artists.
You will find a fully equipped kitchen with microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, tumble-drier and full size electric cooker with all washing up basics as well as tea, coffee, sugar and condiments supplied.
Make use of the large dining area or fall into the large squashy sofa, put your feet up, and make yourself at home. There is a variety of DVD's, CD's and lots of books and magazines if you want to completely indulge yourself. A complimentary welcome pack of a fresh home made loaf, local free-range eggs, milk, juice and biscuits will be there to greet you.
Take your pick from the double bedroom with super-king-size bed and en-suite bathroom or the cosy twin room which can be converted into a super-king-size, with adjacent shower room. All linen is provided along with an ample supply of towels.
Walk out the French doors onto the patio and secluded gated garden with glorious views over the moors, overlooked only by the horses in the field over the fence. The garden has a dog proof fence. On a warm evening feel free to make use of the BBQ, sit, relax and take in your surroundings with a glass of wine.
Within the Hen House there is lots of info about what to do and see in the area. Touring maps of the area, books of walks and cycle routes and some suggestions for walks from the front door are all on the shelves, as well as details of local eating places. The area has some of the best restaurants in the country as well as lots of good pub restaurants in the local villages, many of which are dog friendly. The cottage is 200 yards from the village pub, the Royal Oak, open seven days a week, with good bar food and an amiable bar.
Fadmoor, only 15 minutes walk away, has a prize-winning organic farm shop; Kirkbymoorside - 2.5 miles - has all the shopping you require including two small supermarkets, an excellent butcher, bakeries, a wholefood and organic grocers, a lovely deli and some nice cafes.
